STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD WITH A WEBBER SCHOLARSHIP

The Webber Independent School is offering a limited number of Scholarships for 2025/2026. To be considered for a Webber Scholarship, your child must demonstrate a track record of academic excellence or achievement. Scholarships are available for students from Year 6 to Year 10 up to a 50% Scholarship.

For Year 10 entry, we review past academic performance, reports, and school references and require a minimum of five predicted GCSEs in grades 7 – 9, including English Language and/or Mathematics.

Scholarships

Academic

We offer academic scholarships for exceptional young people who excel significantly above the National Average and academically would be placed in the top few students of the Webber cohort.

Music

Music scholarships are awarded based on audition and interview. Applicants must prepare two contrasting pieces; one may be on a second instrument. The ability to sing will also be considered, and applicants should prepare one song for the audition. Students must bring a portfolio of achievements and a letter of reference from their current Head of Music or instrumental teacher. Applicants will be given aural and sight reading tests. There is the expectation that students will have taken national Music Grade Examinations.

Candidates usually offer 2 instruments: Year 6+ entrants Grade 3; Year 9+ entrants Grade 5 or higher.

Art and Design

Candidates are required to bring a portfolio of their work. They will be expected to discuss their inspirations, techniques, and work using appropriate terminology, as well as demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for their subject and areas for further development with the Head of Art.
Art applicants are required to produce a timed still-life drawing and to complete a written paper.

Sport and Dance

A sports award is offered based on exceptional all-round sporting ability, including club/county and National-Level representation. Applicants will be invited for a practical assessment and interview with the Head of PE. Additional reports from team coaches are also considered, and a Sporting Excellence portfolio will be required. This may also include video evidence. See the shortened sample portfolio HERE from a current scholar at Webber.

Dance applicants will be interviewed and asked to demonstrate excellence in their preferred area of Dance. Candidates are required to prepare a dance to perform to the assessor. Candidates must bring a portfolio of their dance experience and achievements and be prepared to discuss this during an interview. Students may also have taken National Dance or Sporting qualifications.

Drama

All applicants will be interviewed and asked to demonstrate excellence in either dramatic performance or technical skills. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong appreciation of theatre outside of the school context. Students may have taken National Drama Examinations.

Performance: Candidates must perform a solo piece of their choosing; this can be from any genre and last approximately one minute in duration. Each candidate will be presented with an unseen piece of text and asked to give a ‘read’ performance. There will also be an improvisation assessment. References from Drama coaches and a portfolio of evidence (possibly including video footage) will be discussed during the interview. Candidates will also be asked about performances they have given and their aspirations.

Technical: Candidates will be interviewed and required to provide evidence of work they have completed for a production in any area of technical theatre. Evidence should include notes, diagrams, and audiovisual recordings. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to working backstage and being part of a team.
