Ty Erasmus, a year 11 student from The Webber Independent School, has been scouted by the Great Britain 16 to 19 year old Junior Squad and now faces 3 trials to secure a place on the team.
At just 16 years old, Ty is the youngest player to have been selected from his club the London Warriors and faces competition from more experienced and older players within his category. Having played the sport for nearly 4 years, the last 2 as part of the London Warriors as a Wide Receiver and Cornerback, Ty is hopeful that he can make a good impression and take his love for the sport to a whole new level.
The selection process to make it onto the GB squad is made up of 3 trials – the first of which takes place on the 21st February and will be closely observed by the GB Team Head Coach. Thereafter if Ty is selected to return for the second and third trials he shall take part in an actual GB squad practise (4th April 2015) and if successfully chosen he shall then play in the teams very next game against Russia on April 11th.
Ty said; “I am totally surprised and quite nervous about the trials ahead, but hopeful that as one of the youngest people chosen at this stage, that I perform well and get noticed!! If I made it into the team I would be amazed, totally overjoyed and delighted! It would be like a dream!”
Principal Sue Vig added “Good luck to Ty over the coming weeks, we’re extremely proud of what he has achieved so far and support him all the way with his sporting endeavours – he quite clearly has a natural talent and love for American Football.”
